Danilo "DJ" Tangalin Jr., Tidal Chef
Chef DJ Tangalin is at the helm of Tidal, Paradise Point’s signature restaurant. Born and raised in the Philippines, Chef DJ’s career started at a young age. After learning the ins and outs of the restaurant business in his family’s cantina, he moved to Hawaii at age 16.
After three years of Hawaii-living, Chef DJ moved with his family to Cape May, New Jersey where he furthered his passion in the kitchen and attended culinary school to kick-start his own career. After graduating culinary school from the Academy of Culinary Arts in 2009, Chef DJ left New Jersey to travel the country and hone his culinary skills in some of the nation’s most notable restaurants alongside incredible chefs. Some of these included Locanda Verde by Andrew Carmelini, Le Bernardin by Eric Ripert, Coi by Daniel Patterson and Cyrus by Doug Keane.
Chef DJ settled in beautiful San Diego in 2012, where he served as Chef de Cuisine of PrepKitchen Little Italy, Sous Chef of Whisknladle and more. Most recently, he held the role of Executive Chef at JRDN Restaurant.
As Executive Chef of Tidal, Chef DJ seeks to continuously evolve the menu as well as mentor the Tidal team to create a unique culinary experience guests will not soon forget. Chef DJ focuses on highlighting the bounty of San Diego, from local farmers to coastal seafood. With a story behind every dish, he invites you to join us and enjoy honest, good food.
