Spa Service Spotlight: Samunprai Massage

As a spa professional, I get treatments as often as possible.  At home in San Diego, I stick to basic massages and facials that help with maintenance and keeping me healthy but when on vacation, I indulge! I get as adventurous as possible and pick a unique spa treatment or unique massage that I know I can’t get anywhere else.

Vacations have been few and far between this year so yesterday, I decided to spoil myself in my own San Diego spa backyard. The Spa at Paradise Point offers a wide variety of massage treatments from the basic Swedish to a two-hour Javanese Lu’lur Ritual inspired from the exotic isle of Bali. Yesterday I was feeling in need of something that would energize me, but not in that way that my morning mocha does. I needed a calming energy. My massage therapist recommended the Samunprai massage treatment, also known as Thai Herbal Therapy.

This 80-minute unique massage has three distinct Samunprai massage techniques to nurture your tired spirit. The provider at our San Diego spa used a beautifully choreographed routine that included a hot poultice filled with medicinal herbs like lemongrass and ginger in combination with a healing blend of acupressure and aromatherapy techniques. It was a perfect mix to relieve muscle tension and also help me relax and unwind.

The best part of the treatment is I got to take the herbal poultice with me and to continue my spa experience in my San Diego home. I put it in my evening bath which infused the water with the aromatic, medicinal herbs and was a quick, easy way to return to the tranquil state I was in during the original spa treatment.
