San Diego Wedding Trends: Pet-Friendly Weddings

Your San Diego wedding day should include those who are closest to you: family, friends, your best man, and sometimes, man’s best friend.  Involving the four-legged members of the family in vacations, dinner dates, shopping trips, and other aspects of everyday is becoming more common, so it makes sense that Fido would also receive an invite to your big day.

Having a pet-friendly wedding can be smooth sailing or a paws-itively poor choice depending on a variety of factors like your guests, wedding setting and pet’s personality. First, make sure your location is a pet-friendly wedding venue, then use the below pet-friendly wedding pros and cons to determine if this San Diego wedding trend will work for you.

Pet-Friendly Wedding Pros:

  • Based on their persona, pets can fulfill many different wedding roles. While not every pup is cut out to be a ring bearer or flower dog, some may still be included as a greeter, best man, or honored guest.
  • Already having hired a photographer, a pet-friendly wedding is a good chance to snap some professional candids with your canine.
  • While pet-friendly weddings ceremonies are trending, they’re still unexpected.  The addition will make your wedding unique and memorable, and is sure to elicit plenty of oohs and aahs from the audience.

Pet-Friendly Wedding Cons:

  • A dog in a tux outfit will grab your guests’ attention, but could possibly detract from the true focus of the day.
  • Just because you love your dog doesn’t mean your guests will.  Individuals, including vendors, may be allergic to or scared of your pet. If you decide to have a pet-friendly wedding ceremony, be sure to inform everyone ahead of time.
  • Pet behavior is unpredictable in a strange setting surrounded by strange people.  Keep in mind that this type of environment can incite uncharacteristic barking, shyness, and bathroom habits.
  • You don’t want to have to worry about tending to your pet throughout the day, so you’ll need to budget for a sitter to look after them, at least after the ceremony is over.
