Real San Diego Weddings: Jay + Ashleigh
For their vow exchange, Jay and Ashleigh knew they wanted to swap the drastic desert heat of Arizona for a lush, light and airy atmosphere. When they arrived at Paradise Point, these two neuroscience pros didn’t have to do much thinking; they knew the tropical San Diego wedding setting would pair perfectly with their soft and sweet romance theme. Keeping in line with their vision, they became Mr. and Mrs. Turner on Island Point Lawn during the most romantic month of the year with Mission Bay as their backdrop.
Newlywed Ashleigh shares their story, inspiration, favorite memories from the big day, and what led them to have their destination wedding in San Diego.
How they met:
Jay and I both work at a hospital in Phoenix, which is where we met. I am a nurse in the neuroscience ICU and Jay is a neurosurgery resident. Around Christmas time of 2010, I was taking care of one of his patients. We started talking and felt a connection immediately. We went on our first date a few weeks later and I knew afterward that he was “the one.” We became engaged 10 months later and were married on February 2, 2013 in a San Diego wedding at Paradise Point!
Why they chose a wedding in San Diego:
Jay and I both wanted a smaller, more intimate wedding. We knew we wanted to do a destination wedding to cut down the guest list size so we initially chose Hawaii. After we started planning we decided that the island would be a better honeymoon location for us rather than for a wedding. We decided on a San Diego wedding ceremony as it was close to Phoenix, but far enough to be able to keep the guest list smaller. We researched wedding venues in San Diego online and traveled over to California to choose. From the minute we stepped foot on the property of Paradise Point, we knew that it was where we wanted our wedding. We loved the tropical and peaceful feel of the environment, which reminded us of Hawaii. We toured the ceremony sites and reception halls and they were exactly what we were looking for. The guest rooms were beautiful, the food was great, and the staff was friendly, accommodating, and very helpful.
Their San Diego wedding inspiration:
Our wedding theme was romance because we liked the idea of having soft colors and lighting throughout our day. We chose ivory, petal pink and gray for our colors and roses and hydrangeas for our flowers.
Their favorite part of the big day:
Our ceremony. It was romantic, intimate, and beautiful. We could hear the subtle sound of the ocean and breeze as we stood hand-in-hand sharing our vows. The wedding ceremony venue is the main reason we chose to have our wedding at Paradise Point and it turned out perfectly!
