We have made Paradise Point a special place for our family. About 16 years ago we had two children - Elizabeth and Christopher. My wife was going stir crazy and we planned our first trip to Paradise from Chicago. This was our first BIG trip and everybody was excited, but there was one problem. Christopher was 3 and he was having very, very painful ear infections. If his ears didn’t clear up, then we wouldn’t be able to fly. My wife, Adele, spent many days at the doctor’s office trying to help Christopher. He was in SO much pain, it was hard to take. Finally, it was 3 days before the trip and the doctor had tried all the different medicines, but it was getting worse. He said they had to operate on Christopher’s ears and implant tubes. We were scared to death, but had no choice, otherwise his little eardrums would burst and he could be deaf for the rest of his life. A day before the trip they operated on Christopher and it was like a miracle. It worked perfectly, and he was completely pain free; all the gunk drained from his ears and he was fine!
When we arrived at Paradise Point a plane ride later, we couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. We checked into our room and walked out behind the patio with the kids. The fresh cut grass was so soft that I took Christopher by his hands and we started trying to show him how to walk. This was impossible up until that moment because the ear infections had disabled his internal balance and he couldn’t stand on his own. To our amazement, Christopher took his first steps on the Paradise Point grass. Once he got started, we couldn’t stop him! He loved the place and all he wanted to do was chase the ducks! It was truly memorable and we treasure those times.
We have been back several times since and hope to return again this year. By the way, Christopher is now 6’2’’ and 210 pounds :)
