Our first visit to Paradise Point was some 40 years ago. Vacation Village, as it was known then, was recommended to use by one of our close friends. Our family fell in love with our new vacation spot. We have since returned on well over 20 different occasions with our now three adult children, eight grandchildren, and many friends. We took our children there some 13 years straight. It was always their first choice for a vacation spot.
Over the years, our favorite memories of taking our young children to the resort included riding the quadracycle surreys, motor rafting around Mission Bay, teaching my son to fish off the dock, splashing and swimming in each of the pools, our children’s love of toasting marshmallows, and barbecueing at the beach as the sun set. Another favorite memory, later in life at age 37, is when I received my first (and only) Polynesian dance lesson. I was talked into getting on stage at the Barefoot Bar.
12 years ago my now son-in-law drove 130 miles with my daughter to the resort, climbed the winding steps of the tower, and proposed to her. He wanted to choose a location that would have special meaning to her, and he couldn’t have picked a better spot.
We have now passed the Paradise Point baton over to our grown children, who enjoy watching their own children enjoy the island in the same way as we did with them when they were little. However, my wife and I still find our own time to return to the resort that means so much to us.
On my 65th birthday, my wife surprised me with a trip to Paradise Ppoint. I still remember when we were sitting in one of the gazebo’s along the main lagoon when she said, “We are back home.” I couldn’t have agreed more.
