Guest Since 1970

In June 1970, my wife and I got married. We decided to spend our honeymoon week at Paradise Point (then called Vacation Village) because I had vacationed there with my family while I attended high school in La Habra, CA during the early 1960s. I had enjoyed the nice accommodations and all the recreational activities at the resort, as well as the attractions nearby such as SeaWorld and the San Diego Zoo.

So we booked our week-long honeymoon, and as I recall, we got a “honeymoon special” price of about $30 per night!  We had a magnificent week dining, golfing, sailing, and just lounging on the sand. Of particular note was our sailing adventure. Neither of us had much experience sailing, so it took us forever just to get away from the dock. Finally, we got the hang of it and actually made it all the way to the north end of Mission bay and back to the dock without needing a rescue party.

We love that Paradise Point and some of the spots we visited back in 1970 still exist (though sadly, some do not),  as we have returned occasionally to the San Diego area over the years. Over 40 years later, my wife and I still have very fond memories of our honeymoon week on the island, and whenever we drive down the freeway toward the heart of the city, we point it out to our children and grandchildren as we pass by. It was the start of a very happy marriage and a family of three children, now all grown up!
